Remembering Coach Bill Doba
On August 28th, 2026, former Goshen Football Coach and longtime advocate Bill Doba passed away. He was 86. Coach Doba started his education and coaching career at Goshen High School in 1962 as an assistant football coach and PE teacher. After 3 years as an assistant, he left to become the head coach at Angola, returning to take the head job at Goshen just 2 years later. Coach Doba went on to a successful tenure leading Mishawaka for 6 years before moving to the college coaching ranks. Over the next 4 decades Coach Doba made stops at IU, Purdue, The Citadel, and then a 28-year stint in Pullman at Washington State where he served in various roles including LB coach, assistant head coach, defensive coordinator, and ultimately spent 5 years as head coach. During his tenure leading the Cougars, Washington State won 3 Apple Cups, the Holiday Bowl, and Coach Doba was named co-PAC-10 coach of the year alongside USC's Pete Carroll in 2003. Throughout his life, Coach Doba was devoted to his players and wanted the very best for them on and off the field. He was a longtime supporter of Goshen Football and an instrumental member of the Goshen Gridiron Club. We extend our sincerest sympathies to Coach Doba's family in this time of grief, and we will remember him fondly for the great impact he had on the Goshen Football community. Mishler, Keim, Krider Awarded Steve Swihart Memorial Scholarships
Please help us congratulate Logan Mishler, Jaden Keim, and Jack Krider on being awarded Steve Swihart Memorial Scholarships! The scholarship is named in honor of Steve Swihart, who was a captain of the 1978 state championship team, and an assistant coach on the 1988 state championship and 1999 state runner-up teams. Swi was also an educator for over 30 years and believed deeply in the role athletics play in developing young people. The Goshen Gridiron Club established this award to recognize student athletes who participated in Goshen football all 4 years of high school and demonstrate core values of accountability, teamwork, leadership, and dedication to the program. This year’s recipients demonstrated all of those core values and strong character. They are outstanding representatives of the Goshen football program. We thank them for their dedication to their teammates, their school, and the community. Congrats fellas, and best of luck in your next chapters!
